Storyline

Marge takes up baking in her new dream kitchen and enters the great Oven Fresh bake-off contest. However, seeing the other contestants cheat she resorts to putting Maggie's ear medicine on their entries to get through to the final where, after a chat with Lisa, she does the decent thing...and loses. Homer, meanwhile, discovering that Bart has seen his old girlie magazines, horrifies him by telling him about the birds and bees. Written by don @ minifie-1

Trivia

In the final scene, James Caan parodies his death scene from The Godfather (1972). This is the second time that scene has been reference by The Simpsons. In the previous episode 'The Simpsons: Mr. Plow (1992)(TV)', Bart is the victim, and he is ambushed by students using snowballs. Another of his scenes is parodied in 'The Simpsons: Strong Arms of the Ma (2003)(TV)', Marge beats up a criminal, in a shot nearly identical to when Sonny beats up Carlo. See more »

Goofs

Marge gets an entirely new kitchen put in the home which remains for the entire episode. But in one scene of the family sitting on the couch watching TV, the old kitchen can be seen in the background over Homer's head. See more »

Quotes

Homer Simpson: Why do you think your mother and I sleep in the same bed?
Bart Simpson: Because we're poor?
Homer Simpson: Exactly. And we're poor because we have kids.

A strong episode
10 November 2017 | by studioATSee all my reviews

People bang on about the 'best years' of 'The Simpsons' and how the show has gone into a massive decline, but honestly I think people instead should just marvel at its longevity and that even this episode from the 16th series is still entertaining and sharply funny.

I liked that this episode centred on the Lisa and Marge relationship, and like all good Simpsons episodes had a mix of heart and humour. The B story involving Bart and Milhouse was surprisingly funny too.

So forget this 'decline' and enjoy a decent episode of the show.
