The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923)
The fish-man is chained on a circular platform while being tortured by Strickland, just like Lon Chaney (and other portrayers of Quasimodo) being flogged in the Place de Grève. Both are subsequently aided by a woman.
Leve de Jantjes (1936)
The set of the dance number echoes the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dance "Let's Face the Music and Dance," though in the original version there is no orchestra on the stage. This dance with the set is also imitated by Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters in "Pennies from Heaven."
Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942)
Giles refers to James Cagney dancing down a flight of stairs.
Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)
The Amphibian Man was modeled after the creature from this movie. Director Guillermo Del Toro has cited this movie as a major influence on his film.
Mardi Gras (1958)

Chelovek-Amfibiya (1962)
The climax of the amphibian man and his love interest evading the villains and trying to make it in time to the open sea to help the amphibian man escape.
Delicatessen (1991)
The scene of the underwater bathroom is a reference to Delicatessen
Amélie (2001)
The character of Elisa is based on Amélie Poulain. Just like the universe of the set design and the post-production color effect of the cinematography
